| This image gives a good sense of how high the masts of a large schooner reach, even though it was taken from the deck. Usually, when seen from the deck, the rigging doesn’t seem nearly as high as when you are aloft and looking downward. Then it looks like the deck is a long way off and crewed by strange, foreshortened people, all head and feet. |
